Meadowhall Shopping Centre is
located in South Yorkshire, England. It was the first large-scale shopping center
in Britain, opening in 1967. The main anchor tenant is John Lewis, which has
been in the same location since the beginning. Other stores include Debenhams,
Argos, Next, New Look, The Range, Waterstone's, Pets at Home, Mothercare,
WHSmith, Topshop, Boots, Sainsbury's, Marks & Spencer, Debenhams, and many
more. Meadowhall also has several restaurants including Frankie and Benny's,
Pizza Express, McDonald's, KFC, Costa Coffee, and a branch of Greggs. In
addition, there are two cinemas, one called The Forum, and another called
Odeon.
Meadowhall is the only shopping
center in the UK with three cinemas. The shopping center is also home to the
UK's largest indoor ice rink, called Iceworks. The ice rink opened in
It consists of two skating rinks,
with a total seating capacity of 1,800 people, and also includes a range of
entertainment attractions such as a bouncy castle and an ice slide. Meadowhall
also has the UK's only indoor bowling alley, called Bowlmax.
The center opened in October 1999
and was designed by architectural firm Aedas and built by John Laing plc. The
shopping center is located on the site of Meadowhall Industrial Estate, which
was previously occupied by a steelworks. In 1995, the site was sold to the
developer, International Leisure Group.
