Many local businesses have been
negatively impacted by the Covid epidemic. The scheme is part of a series of
Covid-19 recovery schemes designed by the NI Executive and is intended to help
businesses recover from the economic downturn. Each eligible person will
receive a Spend Local £100 Prepaid Mastercard to spend in local businesses over
a short period of time, as a result of the scheme delivered by the Department
for the Economy.
Gordon Lyons, the Economy Minister of
Northern Ireland, has revealed that the High Street Voucher scheme brought in
over one million shoppers to the high streets.
The spend local cards were issued
late last year in order to help businesses recover from the coronaviruses. The
Department for the Economy ran the scheme from September 27 to December 19.
Almost five million dollars was left unspent on activated cards according to
the data.
